The region's winter package has three parts, the Ski ALPIN CARD as your ski pass, the guest card with discounts, and the Guest Mobility Ticket for public transport. Is there a winter card in Zell am See-Kaprun?
The Zell am See Summer Card runs from 15 May to 31 October and then simply ends. In winter, overnight guests automatically receive the standard guest card (discounts rather than free entry) and the Guest Mobility Ticket for buses and trains. The cable cars run on a ski pass in winter, and here that means the Ski ALPIN CARD.
Ski ALPIN CARD: one pass, three regions
One pass, three regions: the Ski ALPIN CARD combines Kitzsteinhorn/Maiskogel, the Schmittenhöhe and the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, together 408 kilometres of slopes and up to 121 lifts. Ski buses and the night slope are included. The 2026/27 prices (as of August 2026):

Children are the 2011 to 2020 birth years, youth 2008 to 2010. Multi-day passes are staggered; the ticket shop shows exact rates.

- Small children born 2021 or later ski free, and from the third child of a family onwards all further children are free

Guest card & Guest Mobility Ticket: automatic
Two cards come without any effort in winter: the regional guest card brings discounts at cable cars, museums and indoor pools. And the Guest Mobility Ticket opens all public transport in the province of Salzburg, from the local bus to the train to Salzburg, digitally in the Zell am See-Kaprun app. Strictly speaking it isn't free but covered by the mobility levy of €0.50 per night that's part of the local tax anyway.
Ski season in Kaprun: 2026/27 dates
Winter starts earlier in Kaprun than elsewhere: the Kitzsteinhorn opens around 10 October 2026 (snow permitting) with autumn skiing and runs to early May. The Maiskogel and the Schmittenhöhe follow around early December; exact dates weren't published as of August 2026. Ski schools and rental sit at the Maiskogelbahn valley station and in the village, from Bründl Sports to Intersport Oberschneider.
Winter beyond the slopes
Winter fills up even without skis: 107 kilometres of cross-country tracks run through the region, with the beginner-friendly Schlossloipe circling right past Kaprun Castle. Tobogganing happens on the floodlit natural run in the Köhlergraben and all year on the Maisi Flitzer at the Maiskogel. Add roughly 40 kilometres of cleared winter walking paths, from the lakeshore to the Schmittenhöhe panorama promenade, and the TAUERN SPA for cold afternoons.
Ski holidays with your own sauna: Chalet Kaprun
A ski holiday at Chalet Kaprun means: 2.5 kilometres to the Maiskogelbahn, into the gondola and up to 3,029 metres via the K-onnection, without moving the car once. After the last run, the Finnish sauna on the ground floor waits, then the kitchen for a shared evening. 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, room for up to 10, and couples get the winter evening and sauna to themselves. Dogs welcome.

No. The Summer Card ends on 31 October and has no free winter counterpart. In winter you use the guest card, the Guest Mobility Ticket and the Ski ALPIN CARD for the slopes.
